NEWCASTLE United’s win over Aston Villa came at a cost – with the club today assessing injuries to Ryan Taylor and Leon Best.

Best hobbled off the field early in yesterday’s game after suffering a knee problem.

And Taylor was stretchered off after suffering an injury in the build-up to Demba Ba’s opening goal.

United manager Alan Pardew is hopeful Taylor’s ankle problem, suffered under a crude challenge from Stephen Warnock which went unpunished, is not a serious one.

However, Best has suspected damage to his medial ligament and the full extent will not be know until it has been scanned.

Read more on Pardew’s injury problems, plus a full match report, photos and reaction to Newcastle’s win, in today’s Sportmail.
