Turkish Toon target 'Italy bound'

TURKISH winger Arda Turan, reportedly a summer transfer target for Newcastle, wants to move to Serie A, his agent said today.

Arda, who missed Turkey's 3-2 Euro 2008 semi-final defeat to Germany last night through suspension, is expected to make an announcement about his future in the next few days.

The Galatasary midfielder has been linked with a move to St James's Park since the turn of the year but it is looking increasingly unlikely he will join Kevin Keegan's side.

Italian sports newspaper Corriere dello Sport reckon Juventus and AC Milan are vying for the left-footed player's signature. He would cost

around 15m

Arda's agent Ahmet Bulut, who also represents Newcastle's Fenerbahce-bound midfielder Emre, is quoted in the paper as saying: "There will be a decision next week when the European Championships have ended and we will reveal all then

"A lot of clubs have contacted me about Arda, even though the asking price for him has risen. Milan and Juventus are both interested and we will start speaking about things on Monday. However, I confirm that next season Arda Turan will play in Italy."

Bulut's statement contradicts what Arda himself said earlier this week when he claimed his preferred destination would be an "English or Spanish" club.
