NEWCASTLE United are hoping to beat off stiff competition to sign Nigerian defender Godfrey Oboabona, according to reports today.
The Magpies are in the market for a new centre-half, with doubts over skipper Fabricio Coloccini’s future.
Oboabona has been linked with a move to Tyneside, while Arsenal are also interested in him, according to the Metro.
The 22-year-old plays for Sunshine Stars, in Nigeria, and has been capped 16 times.
