RELEASED Sunderland pair Jordan Laidler and Liam Marrs have joined Pools’ League Two rivals Carlisle United on trial.
Sunderland opted not to extend the contracts of either striker Laidler, 19, or right-back Marrs, 21, last season after the duo’s emergence from the academy system into the club’s Under-21 squad.
But they will have the chance to impress Carlisle boss and former Sunderland midfielder Graham Kavanagh after being invited to join the League Two outfit during pre-season.
The duo both made first-team appearances during loan spells in the Blue Square North last season – Laidler for Chester and Marrs for Boston – but neither have appeared in the Football League.
Meanwhile, former Sunderland youngster Blair Adams has joined Notts County on a two-year deal after being released by Coventry City.
South Shields-born Adams had his contract terminated by mutual consent at Coventry after Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley decided he was not part of his first-team plans.
But Adams, who left Sunderland to join Coventry in November 2012, has instantly found new employment after agreeing a move to fellow League One outfit Notts County.
“I had a great relationship with the manager at Coventry,” said Adams, who made 64 appearances for Coventry.
“I loved it there. I had a good year and a half and it’s just one of those things.
“The manager wanted to change his tactics so there were no hard feelings.
“I was sad to go but there are always new challenges to take on. I am delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going.”
