THE surprise result of the day came when champions Rovers Quoit were humbled 4-2 at home to Athletic Rovers.

The strong wind and poor finishing were to blame as Quoit suffered a setback.

Paul Garthwaite curled the ball around Gary Fleetham to open the scoring. But that was cancelled out when Daniel Corbett beat keeper Stu Weldrake from six yards.

It got even better for the visitors when they were awarded a penalty for a foul and they took the lead.

The champs levelled on the stroke of half-time when Garthwaite surged down the right flank and his clever shot beat Fleetham at his near post.

However, Rovers put in a dreadful performance after the break, going behind to a clever free-kick.

Athletic then went 4-2 up as Phil Nicholson bagged a brace, the other strike coming from Alex Marshall.
