Black Cats star Asamoah Gyan frustrated by injuries

ASAMOAH Gyan is frustrated that injury prevented him reaching his 15-goal target during his first season on Wearside.

Sunderland’s record signing finished with 10 goals in his maiden Premier League campaign, at a respectable rate of one every three games.

But the Ghanaian had hoped to hit 15 and believed he was on course when he ended a seven-game goal drought by notching the crucial equaliser against Wigan last month.

A hamstring injury sustained 10 minutes later forced Gyan to miss the subsequent three games and he was not able to add to his tally in Sunderland’s final day win at West Ham.

Gyan said: “That game against Wigan, I thought I was going to score a hat-trick.

“When I got that goal, I said to myself that I needed to score more.

“Unfortunately then I got the injury and it was disappointing that I was not able to reach my 15 goals.

“Then again, I think most people are happy with my performances this season.

“I came here just getting used to the game, but I think my performances have been quite impressive.

“The fans have supported me and the team.”
