LIAM BRIDCUTT is expected to start against Liverpool this weekend, with fellow midfielders Lee Cattermole and Jack Rodwell unlikely to feature.

Bridcutt was handed a starting spot for last weekend’s FA Cup third round win over Leeds United and the former Brighton man is expected to keep his place against Liverpool tomorrow lunchtime.

Fellow defensive midfielder Cattermole is a doubt to face Brendan Rodgers’ side after recovering from a groin injury, while summer signing Rodwell will not return to training until next week due to a similar problem.

Sunderland head coach Gus Poyet said today: ““Lee is touch-and-go. We have got two or three players who are nearly there.

“The one who is out is Jack Rodwell - he will start training on Monday, if everything is alright.

“There are three or four where we have decisions to make, but we will have 19 or 20 in the squad tomorrow.

“Liam has been good, so he should be playing, probably.”

Full-back Anthony Reveillere is also unlikely to feature tomorrow after returning to full training earlier this week from the Achilles problem sustained in the warm-up prior to the Tyne-Wear derby.
