SUNDERLAND will face a reunion with former midfielder Graham Kavanagh in the third round of the FA Cup after being handed a home draw against League One Carlisle.

Ex-Black Cats man Kavanagh, appointed Carlisle manager in September, will travel to the Stadium of Light on the weekend of January 4 and 5.

Sunderland met the Cumbrians at the same stage of the competition in 1995 and progressed after a replay at Brunton Park thanks to goals from Gordon Armstrong (2) and Phil Gray.

Gus Poyet’s side will look to avoid another cup upset at the Stadium of Light after being knocked out at the third round stage of the FA Cup in two of the last three years to Football League opposition - Notts County in 2011 and Bolton last season.
