Cats midfielder ready for big kick-off

LEE Cattermole has given Sunderland fans the message they want to here: "I'll be fit and raring to go for the start of the season."

The midfield dynamo played the final half-hour of last night's 2-0 defeat to Benfica after a frustrating last few weeks struggling with muscle injuries.

But he came through the challenge without any problems and said: "I feel fine and I think the trip to Portugal has solved the problems I've had.

"I could have happily started the game but the trainers wanted to err on the side of caution.

"I can understand that but I'm feeling in good shape and now I'm due to play in the last two friendlies, against Leicester City and Hoffenheim.

"If I come through those games unscathed, then I'll be ready for the start of the season no problem – the two games will be more than enough to have me ready."
