Cats boss considers Villa full-back

STEVE Bruce is considering a move for Aston Villa's Luke Young as he weighs up the competing claims of THREE right-backs this summer.

The Sunderland boss is serious in his interest in the out-of-favour Villa man, while also looking at Spurs' Alan Hutton and Argentinian Marcos Angeleri.

And although one of those three will be wearing Sunderland colours next season, exactly which one will come down to cash and terms as Bruce gets tough on transfers.

Bruce ended the season hoping to turn Hutton's loan move at the Stadium of Light into a permanent transfer.

But for that to happen, Spurs had to be realistic about their valuation of a player who was ridiculously over-priced when former Tottenham boss Juande Ramos signed him for 9m just 18 months ago.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will argue that after an injury-wracked time at White Hart Lane, the 25-year-old has proven his Premier League worth during his time on Wearside.

Levy would like his money back, or somewhere approaching the transfer fee they originally paid.

But Sunderland won't consider paying even half the 9m fee and Spurs will have to be realistic if they want a move to happen.

Harry Redknapp sees Hutton as surplus to requirements and would be prepared to sanction a cut-price deal.

But it is Levy who makes the financial decisions at the London club and as he showed in last summer's protracted Darren Bent deal, he is prepared to be a tenancious negotiator.
