JACK Colback’s Sunderland future remains up in the air with contract talks failing to bear fruit so far.
But the Tynesider says that that will not stop him giving 100 per cent for the Black Cats’ cause as he has always done in a Sunderland shirt.
“I find it hard to believe anyone would go into a game and not give it their all to be honest,” he said.
“It’s certainly not in my nature and it goes without say that giving my absolute best is something I’ll continue to be doing.
“Andrea Dossena coming in now to compete for the left-back position is something I’m very much aware on and I know that if I don’t keep performing to the best of my ability he’ll be straight in there.
“But being on the bench when I’m 23 is not something I want to happen.”
Colback is in the last year of his contract at the club and was believed to have put in a transfer request during the transfer window after becoming frustrated at the way negotiations were going.
But the club never had any intention of cashing in on one of the success stories of its Academy and made it clear privately that he would not be leaving.
Head coach Paolo Di Canio is a big fan of the Tynesider and has spoken publicly about the value of the player’s versatility and footballing brain.
And Colback says for his part that he is relaxed about his future and quietly confident that some sort of agreement will be reached before he is allowed to leave on a Bosman..
“I’ve got less than 12 months left on my contract now and we’ve been discussing it,” he revealed.
“But obviously these things take time and sometimes a lot of things can get blown out of proportion..
“I remember that when it came down to my last contract, I was down to the last six or seven months of it before we came up with a deal that everyone was happy with - so it’s not as if I’m in a place that I haven’t been before.
“I’m just letting it get itself sorted out and just concentrating on my football.
“If something comes along contract-wise that I’m happy with, then we’ll talk about it, but until then
“I’m just going to concentrate on my playing, starting with focusing on the Arsenal game this weekend.”
