JERMAIN Defoe remained in the Sunderland starting XI for tonight’s FA Cup fourth round replay at Fulham after Gus Poyet opted to name a strong side.
Poyet had indicated after last weekend’s win over Burnley that he would rest Defoe at Craven Cottage, but the England international kept his place in the side.
There were only three changes from the line-up against Burnley, with Vito Mannone replacing Costel Pantilimon in goal, Ricky Alvarez coming in for the injured Adam Johnson and Emanuele Giaccherini handed a midfield role ahead of the absent Seb Larsson.
But there were only six players named on the bench, with neither Larsson or Jack Rodwell involved.
Fulham also made three changes, with Jack Grimmer, Seko Fofana and Alexander Kacaniklic included.
FULHAM: Bettinelli, Grimmer, Hutchinson, Bodurov, Stafylidis, Fofana, Tunnicliffe, Kacaniklic, McCormack, Rodallega, Woodrow. Subs: Kiraly, Zverotic, Burn, Williams, Christensen, Roberts, Dembele
SUNDERLAND: Mannone, Reveillere, Vergini, O’Shea, van Aanholt, Bridcutt, Gomez, Giaccherini, Alvarez, Wickham, Defoe. Subs: Pantilimon, Brown, Fletcher, Graham, Coates, Agnew.
