JI-Dong won will join Borussia Dortmund in the summer – after completing a stunning second transfer in less than 24 hours.
The striker yesterday joined German side Augsburg on a deal until the end of the season.
But Dortmund today announced they have signed the South Korean on a pre-contract, and the 22-year-old will move to them on July 1 in a four-year deal.
“Ji Dong-won is someone who can play in a variety of attacking positions,” said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc of a forward capped 27 times by his country.
“We’re delighted to have been able to sign such a talented player on a free for next season.”
Sunderland turned down a £5m bid for Ji from Dortmund last summer when boss Paolo Di Canio rejected the move.
Ji’s contract at Sunderland was set to expire in the summer, and the Black Cats agreed an undisclosed fee with Augsburg for the player, but it will be nowhere near what they could have received last year.
