Will Buckley is a wanted man in the Championship, with FIVE clubs making enquiries for the Sunderland winger.

But Sunderland’s headache is that those sides are predominantly looking to sign Buckley on loan, while the Black Cats are looking to offload the 25-year-old on a permanent basis.

Sunderland are looking for a fee in excess of £1million for the former Brighton man

Buckley is one of several players Sunderland are looking to ship out before the end of the month after he has played just 10 minutes in the Black Cats’ last three friendly outings.

There has been plenty of interest in Buckley, yet that has been with a view to taking him on a season-long loan, whereas Sunderland are looking for a fee in excess of £1million for the former Brighton man.

Leeds United are one club who would be prepared to sign Buckley permanently, albeit they may look to take him initially on loan.

But Leeds’ problem would be agreeing wages for Buckley, with chairman Massimo Cellino keen to balance the books at Elland Road.

Buckley, who has also been linked with Birmingham, is far from being one of Sunderland’s top earners, but he is still on more than the highest-paid player at Leeds.

Sunderland may be forced to be patient for Buckley to depart though, with none of those considered surplus to requirements thought to be close to the exit door.

The Black Cats are also looking to offload Buckley’s former Brighton team-mate Liam Bridcutt, plus first-team outcasts Valentin Roberge and Charis Mavrias.
