GUS Poyet says there are no excuses for Sunderland this weekend after revealing that Steven Fletcher and Jack Colback have recovered from viruses and have returned to training.
The Black Cats face Norwich City in a game which the Wearsiders cannot realistically afford to lose if they are to sustain hopes of staying up.
That puts enormous pressure on the home team but Poyet says they should be ready for it after making great strides over the last few weeks.
“We are getting to a point where it is time? No?” he said.
“We are confident after beating Chelsea in the cup and drawing with West Ham in the league in the last week.
“We are fit after playing extra time and now we have Jack Colback and Steven Fletcher back - so we have no excuses.
“Both of them have trained and are back.
“We are in good condition and good shape going into the game, so it’s up to us.”
As well as being bullish and full of expectation himself, Poyet also wants his players to not only control the game against the Canaries tomorrow but also to add a cutting edge which has been lacking in the league.
“I need us to control it as we did against West Ham and be strong mentally and physically like we were at Chelsea.
“Any team coming to the Stadium of Light knows that the home team play well and if the home team scores it becomes very difficult because the fans are so amazing in getting behind their team.
“I’m sure the Norwich game will be about who controls it and we have to control it in the boxes - that’s where we need to be at our strongest.”
