MARTIN O’NEILL produced no surprises when Sunderland’s final squad was submitted to the Premier League yesterday.
Top flight clubs were required to name a maximum 25-man squad by 4pm yesterday, which cannot be changed until the transfer window re-opens in January.
Sunderland confirmed just 21 players, although players under the age of 21 do not have to be registered.
That meant the likes of Connor Wickham, Ji Dong-won, Ryan Noble, Blair Adams, John Egan and Jordan Pickford - who have all been handed squad numbers with the Black Cats - were not included on the list yet are still eligible to feature in the Premier League.
All of Sunderland’s senior professionals were named, including summer signings Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson, Carlos Cuellar, Louis Saha and deadline day acquisition Danny Rose.
Clubs are still able to sign free agents outside of the transfer window, but are only able to field them in the Premier League if they previously registered less than 25 players.
Sunderland Premier League squad: Bardsley, Bramble, Brown, Campbell, Cattermole, Colback, Cuellar, Fletcher, Gardner, Johnson, Kilgallon, Larsson, McClean, Meyler, Mignolet, O’Shea, Rose, Saha, Sessegnon, Vaughan, Westwood.
