GUS POYET is looking for Sunderland to make the most of home advantage in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
Sunderland were yesterday drawn against the reigning Premier League champions in the final four of the competition after Tuesday night’s victory over Chelsea.
The first leg of the January tie will be at the Stadium of Light and head coach Poyet is eager for the Black Cats to have a lead to defend when they head to Old Trafford in the second leg.
Poyet said today: “When you get into the semi-final of a big competition, you’re going to get a top team.
“I was not dreaming of anything different, especially this year, when apart from Leicester, they were all Premier League teams.
“It’s a great draw, a great opportunity to play against Man United in two games.
“It’s great for the players and great for the fans.
“We can make sure we’ve got a sold out game at home and take advantage of that and then go there with the option to go through.
“To be a winner, sometimes you need to win something and it would be great for everyone in the club to win something.
“But first, we need to beat Man United.”
