SUNDERLAND have axed chief scout Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson as owner Ellis Short plans a radical summer overhaul of their transfer strategy.
The Black Cats told the veteran scout yesterday that his contract would be terminated at the end of the season.
The rest of Sunderland’s scouts have also been released as Short looks to improve the club’s transfer dealings.
Manager Paolo Di Canio could have a say in the new appointments, with Short understood to be happy with recent player recruitment.
Robson had been a Steve Bruce appointment, and also worked under his successor, Martin O’Neill.
American owner Short is believed to have looked at the recent transfer dealings of Swansea and Newcastle United, and wants Sunderland to try and get more value for money from their budget.
