He may have been in the job for more than a week, but today David Moyes gave his first press conference as Sunderland manager.

There was the usual scarf waving and shirt holding as media from across the country descended on the Academy of Light.

Here's the key points from today's gathering, which you can recap on the live blog:

1) Sunderland have bids in for players

Unsurprising as we're now in August and Sunderland need to strengthen several areas.

Moyes said: "We have offers in for people already and we're working hard. I've been really impressed by the new chief executive."

2) Moyes may raid his old club

The former Manchester United manager admitted interest in his former players Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Janujaz but admitted wages may be a problem.

3) Style isn't everything... yet

"The job is to win the games. Maybe at the start we might have to win ugly, but as we go along I want the supporters to be excited."

4) Moyes believes in SAFC's potential

Moyes said: "I'm more excited about this challenge because of the stadium, the fans and the owner. Sunderland have potential that many clubs don't have, but we have to progress."

5) Spain has the best teams... but Premier League is the most exciting league

"I've been in Spain and they have the best teams, but the Premier League is the league everyone wants to watch."

6) Moyes is up to speed thanks to Big Sam

He told the press conference that he spoke to Sam Allardyce before taking on the Sunderland job, so he is up to date with the squad and staff and the possible requirements.
