SUNDERLAND boss Gus Poyet has dropped his legal case against former club Brighton.

Poyet opted to take Brighton to an employment tribunal after he was sacked as Seagulls boss for gross misconduct last June and then lost a club appeal against the decision.

But a statement from Poyet’s lawyers today confirmed that the Uruguayan has reached a settlement with Brighton and will not pursue the matter any further.

“In relation to Mr Gus Poyet’s departure from Brighton Football Club, both Mr Gus Poyet and Brighton Football Club have now reached a settlement whereby Mr Gus Poyet has withdrawn his Employment Tribunal Claim,” said the statement.

“Mr Gus Poyet would like to take this opportunity to express his sincere thanks to Brighton Football Club and in particular the fans for the tremendous support received during his time as manager at Brighton Football Club.

“Mr Gus Poyet wishes both Brighton Football Club and the fans well for the future.”

Poyet had been in charge at Brighton for three-and-a-half years when he was suspended by the club in May, just days after the Seagulls lost to local rivals Crystal Palace in the play-off semi-finals.

He was then formally shown the door by Brighton before taking over at the Stadium of Light last month.
