BRIGHTON are hopeful of landing released Sunderland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

The Republic of Ireland stopper is yet to find himself a new club after Sunderland opted against renewing his contract at the end of last season.

But Brighton, who have released ex-Manchester United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak, are keen to make Westwood their new number one.

The former Coventry man is at the top of new boss Sami Hyypia’s shortlist, albeit he would have to take a significant drop in wages to join the Seagulls.

Despite Westwood remaining a free agent, there has been plenty of interest in the 29-year-old.

Several Championship clubs, including Blackburn, have been keeping tabs on his situation, although there was no substance to reports that Manchester City were keen to make Westwood their new back-up keeper

Meanwhile, Sunderland have been linked with two players plying their trade for Premier League rivals.

The Black Cats have been credited with fresh interest in Stoke City right-back Geoff Cameron, who is currently with Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore at the World Cup with the USA.

Stoke rejected a January deadline day bid from Sunderland for Cameron, yet the Potters have subsequently signed out-of-contract former Black Cats defender Phil Bardsley.

Despite Sunderland signing Billy Jones on a Bosman deal as a replacement for Bardsley, the ex-West Brom man is the only full-back currently in the first-team squad.

Hull are also rumoured to be keeping tabs on Cameron.

Sunderland are also among a host of Premier League clubs linked with a loan move for Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell.

West Brom and Everton have been mentioned as possible suitors too, with the latter seeing a January bid to take the England international back to Goodison Park rejected.
