Fabio Borini, Ola Toivonen, Younes Kaboul and John O'Shea are all in contention for Saturday's clash against Southampton, but Lee Cattermole has been ruled out.
The quartet of Borini (ankle), O'Shea (hamstring), Toivonen and Kaboul (both groin) missed last weekend's defeat at Everton through injury after none were able to play a part in training.
But all four trained at the Stadium of Light today and could return for this weekend's visit of Southampton, as Sunderland bid for a second successive home victory.
However, midfielder Cattermole will miss out after he was forced off against Everton with a groin problem which had been troubling him for several weeks.
Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is hopeful though that Cattermole will be fit by the time the Black Cats return to action at Crystal Palace after the two-week international break.
Allardyce said today: "Lee Cattermole won't make it this weekend.
"The international break will do him good to clear up what's been a lingering problem for him.
"He had it even before I came here, and it got worse last weekend.
"By the time the international break is over, hopefully he's fully fit again.
"The other lads have all trained today - Fabio, Ola, Younes and John, which is obviously good news for ourselves and strengthening the squad for a very difficult game against Southampton."
