STEPHANE Sessegnon insists Martin O’Neill is living up to his reputation of lifting the spirits of beleaguered players.
O’Neill has taken seven points from his four games in charge to propel Sunderland up to 14th in the Premier League table and hand them some breathing space from the bottom three.
Like many of Sunderland’s players, Sessegnon was sad to see the demise of Steve Bruce after the ex-Black Cats boss brought the Benin international to Wearside from Paris St Germain in a £6million deal 12 months ago.
But Sessegnon was aware of O’Neill’s feats at Aston Villa and Celtic while he was plying his trade in the French League and believes he has injected some new impetus into a Sunderland side struggling at the wrong end of the table.
Sessegnon told Sportmail: “It’s been good so far.
“He’s only had a few matches, but since getting a victory in his first game against Blackburn, there’s been more confidence about us.”
