STEVE Bruce today fiercely denied speculation that Michael Turner is heading for the exit door, amid reported interest from Bolton Wanderers.
The Sunderland boss needs to cut his cloth before he can re-enter the transfer market after nine new arrivals at the Stadium of Light over the summer.
But Bruce will only contemplate selling those who are surplus to requirements despite talk that Bolton boss Owen Coyle is preparing a bid for defender Turner.
The 27-year-old, brought to Wearside by Bruce for £4million two years ago, missed last night’s encounter at Kilmarnock, with the Sunderland boss taking a cautious approach over the centre-half’s recovery from last season’s knee injury.
Bruce said: “There are players we’d like to move on, but Michael definitely does not fall into that category.”
