SUNDERLAND have completed a deal for Brighton winger Will Buckley.
The Black Cats today confirmed that Buckley had penned a three-year deal at the Stadium of Light after Sunderland agreed an undisclosed fee with Brighton for the 24-year-old – thought to be around £2.5m.
Buckley, who will now be available for Sunderland’s opening day clash at West Brom, has been on Gus Poyet’s radar, ever since the ex-Brighton boss took charge at the Stadium of Light.
Poyet wanted to bring both Buckley and Liam Bridcutt to the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window, but Sunderland were only able to agree a fee for the latter.
Sunderland have been persistent though and after making a fresh bid over the weekend, new Brighton boss Sami Hyypia consented to Buckley’s departure.
Poyet has been looking to add pace to Sunderland’s attack this summer and ex-Rochdale man Buckley will fulfil that remit.
