SUNDERLAND striker Connor Wickham has joined Leeds United on loan until the end of the season.
Wickham was recalled to the Stadium of Light last month from Sheffield Wednesday after doubts over Steven Fletcher’s fitness left Sunderland short on strikers.
The England Under-21 international has made two appearances from the bench since returning, but he has now moved back to the Championship on loan.
Despite Wednesday’s continued interest - after Wickham scored eight times in 11 games at Hillsborough - the 20-year-old has joined their Yorkshire rivals Leeds.
Wickham’s exit will be seen as a clear sign that Fletcher’s fitness has improved significantly after the Scotland international spent almost three weeks on the sidelines with an Achilles injury.
