SUNDERLAND have been dealt an injury blow on the eve of tomorrow’s survival showdown against Leicester City, with Jordi Gomez and Wes Brown both ruled out.

Neither Gomez nor Brown will play again this season, with Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat forced to make a couple of changes for the visit of fellow strugglers Leicester, as the Black Cats look to secure their Premier League status.

Liam Bridcutt will take Gomez’s place in the line-up at the Stadium of Light, with more than 45,000 fans exected at the match.

Gomez is out for six weeks after suffering a fractured knee cap, while Brown faces a couple of weeks on the sidelines with a recurrence of the knee problem that saw him ruled out for six weeks prior to his return in last weekend’s crunch victory at Everton.

John O’Shea has recovered from sore ribs and is fit again to provide a like-for-like replacement for Brown.

Advocaat confirmed at his pre-match press conference that Jack Rodwell is also still sidelined and Bridcutt - rather than Adam Johnson - will come into the side.

However, the Sunderland squad will be boosted by the return of Emanuele Giaccherini this weekend, with the Italian international out since February after undergoing an operation on his ankle.
