SUNDERLAND will face Southampton in the Capital One Cup last 16 on Wednesday, October 30 (kick-off 7.45pm) - the same night arch-rivals Newcastle United are at home.
The Black Cats have confirmed the date of their Stadium of Light tie against the Saints and it will now take place three days after the Wear-Tyne derby on Sunday, October 27.
There had been fears that Sunderland would be forced to play just 48 hours after meeting the Magpies, with Newcastle’s cup clash against Chelsea confirmed for the Wednesday.
But the two North East clubs will now bid to reach the quarter finals of the competition on the same evening.
Ticket details are yet to be announced.
