Sunderland want Yann M'Vila deal, but wages may be a hurdle to permanent switch

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed his eagerness to sign on-loan Yann M'Vila on a permanent basis, with the Frenchman keen to remain at the Stadium of Light.

M'Vila has been one of Sunderland's stand-out players this season after he was unquestionably the Black Cats' most consistent performer in the first half of the campaign.

The 25-year-old has publicly stated that he wants to stay at Sunderland and revealed in February that he had been in talks with parent club Ruben Kazan over ripping up the final six months of his contract in Russia, which is due to expire at the end of 2016.

There was also a clause inserted in M'Vila's season-long loan to convert the switch into a permanent deal.

However, one potential hurdle is the mega money contract M'Vila signed at Kazan - understood to be in excess of £100,000 a week - with Sunderland paying than less than half of that wage packet during his time on Wearside.

M'Vila would have to take a pay cut to return to the Stadium of Light, although Allardyce insists Sunderland will do everything possible to sign the French international.

Allardyce said: “He wants to stay, so one of things we have to do is start that negotiation.

"That will be difficult, but we’ll try. That is one of the priorities.”
