Sunderland have to face bogey side Everton away in FA Cup quarter-finals
Sunderland's Lee Cattermole (right) and Everton's Leon Osman battle for the ball during the Boxing Day clash at the Stadium of Light, which ended 1-1. They must now face each other again in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
SUNDERLAND will have to travel to Goodison Park to face bogey side Everton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The Black Cats beat Arsenal 2-0 yesterday at the Stadium of Light, but have a poor record against the blue side of Liverpool, though were unlucky to only draw 1-1 with the Toffees on Boxing Day, when a controversial penalty by Leighton Baines cancelled out Jack Colback’s goal at the Stadium of Light.
Everton last won the competition in 1995 though were beaten finalists in 2009, while Sunderland’s best season since reaching the final 20 years ago came in 2004 when they were beaten semi-finalists against Millwall.
In the other games, Chelsea or Birmingham will play Leicester at home, while Tottenham, held to a 0-0 draw by Stevenage, will face Bolton Wanderers if they can win their replay at White Hart Lane.
Liverpool or Brighton will play last year’s finalists Stoke City in the other tie.
FA Cup quarter-final draw: Liverpool/Brighton v Stoke; Chelsea/Birmingham v Leicester; Stevenage/Tottenham v Bolton; Everton v Sunderland. Matches to be played weekend of March 17-18.
