Sunderland’s Kieran Richardson desperate for Wembley return after FA Cup win over Arsenal
Kieran Richardson is a major injury doubt for the weekend.
KIERAN Richardson is desperate to live the Wembley dream with Sunderland – five years after playing in the opening game at the national stadium.
Sunderland’s FA Cup fifth-round victory against Arsenal left the Black Cats just one game away from a Wembley semi-final, although they face a tough trip to bogey team Everton in the last eight of the competition on the weekend of March 17-18.
Richardson hasn’t played at Wembley since the inaugural game at the revamped stadium in March 2007, when the then Manchester United man helped England U21 to a 3-3 draw with Italy.
The 28-year-old is eager to make a return in his fifth season on Wearside after grabbing the opener against Arsenal on Saturday, as Sunderland exacted some revenge for the league defeat at the hands of the Gunners seven days earlier.
Richardson told Sportmail: “I want to get to Wembley, like everyone at Sunderland.
“We’ve been playing so well since Martin O’Neill has come in and we deserved to get through.
“I would say we wanted it more than them.”
