WES Brown has backed new boss Martin O’Neill to bring a “feel-good factor” to the ailing Black Cats.

O’Neill took charge of his first training session at the Academy of Light this morning after watching Sunday’s defeat at Wolves from the stands.

The former Aston Villa and Celtic boss has his work cut out on Wearside, with Sunderland lying just one point and one place above the relegation zone.

But centre-half Brown believes O’Neill has the pedigree to inject new life into the Wearsiders – starting with this weekend’s visit of third bottom Blackburn Rovers.

Brown said: “He’ll definitely bring a feel-good factor. It’s a new start and we’ll see what happens.

“We know the qualities he’s got and he’s going to put all his experience into the team.

“We’re looking forward to it, but the Wolves game was disappointing and that’s what it’s all about.

“It would be nice to put the Wolves game to bed and have a fresh start.

“For 60 minutes we were playing well and it was disappointing to lose, but we’ve got a new manager now and hopefully we can start going from there.”
