HOLLUND KEEPS OPTIONS OPEN
FREED goalkeeper Martin Hollund is currently training with Norwegian First Division side Asane in his bid to gain a new contract.
The 27-year-old was one of two players shown the door by Hartlepool United manager Chris Turner at the end of the season, along with Anth Lormor, but instead of heading straight for a sunshine holiday, Hollund has jetted home in the hope of linking up with a Scandinavian club with the Norwegian season starting last month.
The former Brann stopper is also keen to stay in England but is keeping his options open with regards to a return to Norway if he fails to win a deal.
He said: "I have been back for the past three weeks and have just started training with Asane.
"It is important that I keep myself fit as anything could come up over here and I have to be ready."
Hollund was signed by Mick Tait in 1997 and was first choice for three years before a pelvic injury forced him out six games into the 2000/2001 campaign and Anthony Williams, who was was brought to Victoria Park from Blackburn Rovers that summer, grabbed his chance.
The Welshman has since claimed the number one shirt and Hollund pledged to leave the club if he had not regained his first-team status by this summer.
He was handed the gloves in August after impressing during the pre-season campaign but returned to the bench after just four matches with Williams staying between the sticks for the remainder of the campaign.
Hollund said: "It was time to move on after five years with Hartlepool. I have not played the last two apart from a few games and wanted to be a regular somewhere.
"Hopefully something will come up in either Norway or England. I will just have to wait and see.
"Overall, I really enjoyed my time in Hartlepool although it was obviously hard for the last couple of years with me not playing."
Despite being in Brann, Hollund is keeping his eyes on the situation in England and is keen to find another club in the Nationwide League.
He said: "Next month I am going to come back to Hartlepool and collect my things and if I haven't got a club in England then I will move back to Norway.
"To be honest, I would not mind staying in England another couple of years.
"It looks like it is going to be hard to get a job, though, as there are a lot of footballers out of work this summer and a lot of clubs in financial difficulties."
