HARTLEPOOL swimmer Jemma Lowe missed out on a podium finish as Great Britain team-mate Ellen Gandy claimed silver medal in the 200 metres butterfly at the World Championships in Shanghai.
Lowe had been fastest qualifier during Wednesday’s heats but failed to better that time in the final and finished in seventh position.
Gandy, meanwhile, had been the fourth fastest qualifier into the final and was third at the last turn.
The Melbourne-based swimmer went into the lead but was then caught at the wall by China’s Jiao Liuyang to finish in two minutes 05.59 seconds.
Today’s medal followed her fifth place in the 100m butterfly final earlier in the week.
It is Great Britain’s second medal in the pool, and third in total, following Keri-Anne Payne’s gold in the open water and Rebecca Adlington’s silver in the 400m freestyle on the first night of competition at the Oriental Sports Centre.
