BUDDING athletics star Ashleigh Wood is targeting a Great Britain vest after winning a medal in her senior debut.
Ashleigh took the bronze medal with a great performance in the 60 metre hurdles at the Northern Area Championships in Sheffield.
The 19-year-old took part in the spring event at the English Institute for Sport after starting her athletics career as a high-jumper before becoming a heptathlete while at Manor College of Technology in Hartlepool.
Ashleigh said: “It was a fantastic competition to be a part of.
“I’m really happy with coming home with a medal because of the standard of competitors.
“There were some people who compete for England and Great Britain there so I was up against the best in the business.”
