HARTLEPOOL darts player Tony Eccles is putting down his arrows after admitting his recent form has been “terrible”.

Eccles has failed to make the upcoming World Championships starting next month after suffering a disappointing season.

And the 2002 British Open Champion, from West View in Hartlepool, knows where he is going wrong.

He said: “I have been playing terrible.

“I haven’t been at my best for a long time now for different reasons.

“My problem is I haven’t been gripping the dart the same and the injuries are playing on my mind.”

Eccles, known as “the Viper”, is currently concentrating on helping his partner, Claire Stainsby, run the Cleveland Youth team.
