Hartlepool Tennis Club beat local rivals Eldon Grove in the Cleveland Tennis League.
The Granville Avenue club won 5.5-3.5 in a tight clash between the club’s Men’s A team and the Eldon Grove B team last week.
The result means Hartlepool climb from their position of third in the table while Eldon Grove remain in mid-table in the Cleveland league second division.
Eldon Grove’s Men’s A team secured their first ever victory in the Aegon league first division with victory over Ponteland.
The Aegon league sees teams from across the North-East compete.
The Eldon Grove team of Elliot Stirk, Ashely Stirk, Danny Palmer and Tony Evans earned the historic first win.
In their return to the Cleveland league the A team lost 9-0 to a strong Tennis World side.
The defeat inflicted by the Middlesbrough outfit was only Eldon Grove’s second of the season out of six matches.
The club’s Mixed A team also earned a victory this week with a 6-3 win over Sedgefield.
Jenny Bramley and Ashley Stirk won three matches, Tony and Vicky Evans two and Martin Jenner and Tracey Ward one.
Eldon Grove’s Men’s C team who were yet to lose this season suffered defeat against table topping Greenfield.
The clash between the top two in the league finished 6-3 with the team of Stuart Davison and Jacob Clyburn, Phil Stirk and Martin Jenner, and Mark Ellis and Dave White on the losing side.
The C team however managed to continue their promotion push with a victory over Yarm E 5.5-3.5.
Jacob Clyburn and Matthew Henry won 2.5 matches, Martin and Patrick Jenner 2, and Mark Ellis and Dave White one.
Eldon Grove’s Mixed B also earned an impressive 6-3 victory over Yarm.
The team of Jenny Bramley, Jeff Crawford, Jackie Crawford, Norman Ainsley, Tracey Ward and Mike Bee completed the win.
Eldon Grove Ladies B were beaten 6-3 away against Darlington club, New Blackwell.
The pairs of Laura Murray and Sharon Bramley, Sue Bentley and Louise Hickey, and Enid Laycock and Sue Armstrong all won one match each.
