HARTLEPOOL-born rugby ace Michael Young is ready for the “ultimate challenge” as he bids to win a starting jersey at new club Leicester Tigers.

The 22-year-old will begin pre-season training next week having moved to the Aviva Premiership runners-up from Newcastle Falcons at the end of the last campaign.

But with Tigers and England scrum-half Ben Youngs having caught the eye at international level this summer, Young knows he faces an almighty battle to win a place in the side.

“This is a massive move for me and is the ultimate challenge really – trying to win a starting jersey at a club such as Leicester,” the former Brierton Comprehensive pupil told SportMail.

“I just can’t wait to get started and it’s an exciting time for me.

“There are a lot of top players at the club and a lot of internationals – so this is going to be as tough a challenge as you can get.

“But it’s one I’m looking forward to and it’s a fantastic chance to take my career to the next level.”

Young joins up with the Welford Road outfit on the back of Churchill Cup success with the England Saxons squad last weekend.
