TONY Eccles and Paul Jennings both play their first round matches at this year’s Lakeside 2013 World Championsips with victory on their minds.
The Hartlepool duo arrived in Surrey this weekend and their games on Monday evening are the final three to determine who will make up the last-16’s draw.
Eccles takes on the unknown Belgian Geert De Vos while Jenno will be pitting his wits against East Kilbride-born Ross Montgomery.
Both are cautious but optimisitc about their chances.
Eccles said: “I don’t much about Geert De Vos but when I’m on my game I can beat anyone.
“I’ve prepared right and if I can get use to the surroundings again I’m confident I can beat him.”
Unlike Eccles, Jennings knows a lot about Montgomery.
The pair often travel to events with one another and in three BDO ranking events Montgomery has beat him twice.
At Lakeside, however, history is thrown out the window.
“Paul’s main priority is to get past Ross, and there’s not much to worry about,” said Jennings’ promoter Kevin Hill.
“They’ve had a few meetings in the past and they are both similar capabilities-wise.
“Paul’s looking forward to that match because they are both good players but Paul can beat Ross.
“We don’t map out future games – we take it one game at a time.
“We assess the next opponent when we beat the previuus one.”
Eccles’ game is broadcast live on ESPN at 6.30pm Monday, with Jennings’ clash straight after.
