GRAEME Storm made significant progress in the BMW Italian Open to put himself in a good position to strike for the top end of the leaderboard.
The Hartlepool golfer followed up a first-round 70 by registering a three-under-par 69 at Roveri to move up 11 places from 51st to 40th.
His halfway total of 139 left him some way behind leader Robert Rock, whose 68 put him on 132 (12 under par), one stroke ahead of playing partner Chris Wood.
But it put Storm in good stead to challenge for a second successive PGA European Tour top 20 spot after finishing in a tie for 18th in the Saab Wales Open last weekend.
Storm began at the 10th at Royal Park yesterday and it did not start well as he bogeyed the par three 15th.
However, he birdied the par five 18th for the second day in a row to be out in an even par 36.
The second half of the round proved a blemish-free run and included birdies at the first, fourth and ninth.
