GRAND National winning horse Auroras Encore is set to make an appearance at a racecourse.

Auroras Encore, which won this year’s Grand National at Aintree, will be making a special appearance at Sedgefield Racecourse at the infamous Durham National on Wednesday, April 24.

Racegoers will be able to see the winning horse and jockey parade at 7pm and will hear popular racing presenter Derek Thompson talk about his racing career.

Trained by Sue Smith and assisted by her husband Harvey, the 66/1 winner was overlooked in the big race after recent unplaced races.

Jill Williamson, general manager of Sedgefield Racecourse, said: “This is an amazing opportunity to be able to get up close to this year’s Grand National legend. We are so excited to welcome a horse who started its racing career here in 2007 and I do hope that people will come along to attend what is set to be a fantastic evening.”

The Durham National will include feature race the Sean Magee Durham Grand National, for chase horses over a distance of three miles, six furlongs.

The race was won last year by, Donald McCain’s horse Chamirey, another trainer steeped in Grand National history.
