HARTLEPOOL Burn Road Harriers are celebrating after posting some fast times at the Middlesbrough Riverside 5k race.
The course is favoured by athletes looking for a personal best over the distance is it is fast and flat.
The event was won by Matty Hynes in 14:16, with Danielle Hodgkinson of Wallsend Harriers winning the women’s race in 16:35.
Hartlepool Burn Road Harriers were well represented at the event, with Paul Wilson claiming first position over his team mates to cross the line in 16:26 for 20th place overall in a hugely competitive field of athletes from as far afield as Leeds, Liverpool and St Albans.
Mick Lamb had a great race, placing fifth Vet45 in 17:12 and claiming a new ranking of fourth fastest male Vet45 over 5k in the North East so far in 2014.
Bryan Astill was the third harrier to cross the line in 17:38, placing him in the top 75 Vet45 men over the distance in the UK this year, with Mick Lamb placing 47th nationally.
John Davis was next in 17:46 for a fantastic personal best over the 5k distance, with Ian Bilton powering home soon after in 19:25.
Hartlepool’s first female to finish and earn herself an incredible personal best was Sarah Black, 10th female overall and first Vet40 setting herself an excellent new standard of 19:29.
This makes Sarah the 38th fastest Vet40 5K runner of 2014 across the UK and the third fastest in her Vet category in the North East.
Keith Galbraith placed 10th Vet50 in 20:13 and Darren Smith put in a great performance to cross the finish line in 20:35, with Lesley Strickland following in in 22:26 for a great personal best and third Vet45 on the day. Simon Lawlor ran a very credible 22:52 in the hot conditions.
Greg Swinbourne powered round the course in 25:38, with Julie McGrath next to finish in 27:53 for 13th Vet50 position.
Christopher McGrath had another fantastic run and is getting stronger with each race. He crossed the line in 34:09.
In the 2k event, Alex Lamb had a great race to complete the course in 7:58. A great performance from Alex.
Ben Hoey also took on the challenge of the 2000m course after training with the Hartlepoo Burn Road Harrier Youth Athletics Club.
He completed the run in 9:30 alongside his very proud Uncle John. Well done to all athletes.
