JEMMA Lowe has missed out on a place in the European Championship 200 metre butterfly final by just 0.18 seconds.
The Hartlepool swimmer clocked 2;10.49 in finishing fifth in tonight’s semi-final in Berlin, with Italy’s Alessia Polieri pipping her to the last qualifying spot in a time of 2:10.31.
After finishing sixth in the 100 metres butterfly final on Friday night, J Lo had hoped to make Sunday’s final of the four-length race.
The day started well when she was fourth in her heat on the morning, finishing behind Hungary’s Zsuzsanna Jakabos, Martina van Berkel, from the Netherlands, and Lara Grangeon, from France.
But in the semi, she trailed well behind the top four, who all went under 2:09 – Maria Bemonte Garcia (2:06.53), Judith Sorribes (2:07.44), van Berkel (2:08.45) and Stafania Pirozzi 2:08.96.
Lowe had beaten Pirozzi in their heat on the morning but the Italian went much quicker on the evening.
The 24-year-old Poolie is a reserve for Sunday’s final.
