HARTLEPOOL Rovers and Billingham ended their pre-season programmes at Greenwood Road last night, the North One East side emerging with a big win that didn’t really reflect the eighty minutes.
Rovers, for all their periods of dominance, could only score one try being thwarted not only by a resolute home defence but also by several knock-ons and penalties. They will also rue giving Billingham’s Peter Evans too much time and space on the ball.
The full-back scored four tries, and also kicked four conversions out of six, in a superb display of running rugby. It was also a good night for left winger James Screen who popped up on the opposite flank to earn a brace.
