Billingham Stars play one of their most important matches of the season in National Ice Hockey League (N) Moralee Conference tomorrow when fellow play-off contenders Sutton Sting visit.

The race for this season’s end-of-season showcase is the tightest it has been for years, with only title winners Solway Sharks guaranteed a spot going into this weekend’s fixtures.

It is any three from five for the remaining places, with Sunday’s visitors Sutton looking on paper the most vulnerable with an exceptionally tough run-in.

The Stars currently hold a five-point advantage over their guests, and a win tomorrow should mean that a play-off place is all but assured.

Billingham’s confidence will have taken a knock following last Sunday’s 0-4 home shut-out at the

hands of new league champions Solway Sharks.

However the Teessiders are well aware of the importance of this fixture and should be at full strength to take on the Sting.

Andy Finn remains on the long-term injury list, whilst popular grinder Scott Ward aggravated a groin niggle during last Sunday’s defeat.

Richie Thornton makes a welcome return to the blue line as does Martyn Davies, meaning Director of Coaching Terry Ward has the luxury of a near full squad to select from.

Face off is 6.30pm and tickets can be bought from the box office from 5.30pm on game night priced at £7.50 adults, £5 concessions, £22 family [2+2].
