Horden take on Sunderland.

HORDEN opened their Durham Northumberland Division One season with a win over Sunderland – for the second year running.

Head coach Glenn Bowman had said in SportMail last Friday that Horden would be taking an adventurous approach.

And while the Horden pack had a difficult afternoon against a strong home eight, Bowman will have been pleased that all three away tries came via his back division.

“It wasn’t the prettiest of performances due to the weather conditions but it was a deserved away win against an awkward side,” Bowman said.

“If we’d had more quicker ball I’m confident that we would have created more opportunities out wide.

“The team worked really hard for each other and put in a great defensive effort, especially up front.”
