TONY Eccles will not retire from darts as world champion after he exited the BDO Darts World Championships at the quarter-final stage tonight.
The Viper lost 5-2 to Liverpool’s Robbie Green who was in scintillating form on the oche.
Green surged into a three-set lead courtesy of some clinical darts constituting of a 98+ average and a 64 per cent checkout rate.
Eccles mounted a spirited comeback, winning two of the next three sets.
The seventh and final set was an encounter full of tension and nerves, with Green missing numerous darts for the match with a 2-1 leg lead which Eccles saved before Green found the D18 to win the match in the fifth leg.
Eccles, who beat Darryl Fitton and Wesley Harms in round one and two respectively, will now retire from the sport with his joint best placing at Lakeside.
