THERE is a lot of rugby left to play.
Those were today the words of warning from West Hartlepool head coach Tim Sawyer.
His West team made it eight wins in a row to regain top spot in North One East when they defeated Percy Park 10-0 in their clash at Brinkburn on Saturday.
Two points ahead with a game in hand, the leaders look odds-on favourites to go on to clinch the championship and the one automatic promotion slot.
But Sawyer says talk of West being promoted is extremely premature, though he admits he’d prefer to be the side out in front rather than the team doing the chasing.
“There is an awful long way to go yet,” he said. “Whether we won or lost on Saturday, the result was never going to decide the league.
“There could still be a lot more twists and turns before the end of the season.
“We’ve got to keep watching over our shoulders and as the top side in the league, you are there to be shot at.”
