WEST Hartlepool aim to deliver the perfect tribute to Reg Turner by winning tomorrow’s National Three North match with Birkenhead Park.
West will hold a minute’s silence at Brinkburn ahead of the kick-off in memory of their president who died minutes after watching the superb win over Chester last Saturday.
And once they get under way they at 2.15pm they plan to make plenty of noise against their fifth-placed visitors.
Director of rugby Kevan Oliphant told SportMail that emotions at the Catcote Road have been, understandably, raw following the loss of such a popular figure – the players were as fond of Reg as he was with them.
And while Oliphant wants the team to play with passion, he said they must concentrate on not letting the emotion get the better of them.
“Reg has been on everyone’s minds,” said Oliphant.
“He meant a lot to everyone at the club, including the players.
“But the best tribute we can possibly pay to Reg is by going out and winning the game.
“It’s a bit of a cliche but that is what he’d have wanted.”
Greg Edwards, Tom Dixon and Michael Hogan come into the starting XV for West.
