CALLUM Winton has made a “dream” boxing move after linking up with Ricky Hatton’s coach.

The 20-year-old has left Hartlepool for Manchester to join Bob Shannon, who was the man who was in the Hatton corner in his comeback earlier this year.

Winton had been part of the Gus Robinson Developments stable, with whom he won twice after drawing on his debut last July.

Head coach at the West View Road gym, Peter Cope, told SportMail he was “disappointed” with Winton’s decision but wished him “all the best”.

Winton won his last fight in style, outpointing Paul Haines at the Rainton Meadows Arena last month.

And he said the chance to work and learn from the 56-year-old Mancunian was too good to turn down.

“My brother, Lewis, is very interested in my career and he’d been in contact with Bob,” said Winton.

“He’d told Bob about me and what I was like as a boxer and Bob invited me down to go down to train at his gym for a week.

“It went great.

“Bob was over the moon with me and said he’d take me on.

“He is a fantastic coach, one of the best in the world, and it was a dream opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“It’s a brilliant chance – he trained Ricky Hatton in his comeback and that’s the sort of style I’ve got so I think he’ll be brilliant for me.”
